About MIFSA
Mental Illness Fellowship South Australia
MIFSA is a community based, not for profit organisation delivering a range of programs and services for people affected by mental illness, carers and the community
What we do
If you have a mental illness and need support to get the most out of daily life we can help you with rehabilitation and managing your recovery.
At MIFSA we understand that a diagnosis of mental illness affects families and loved ones as well as the individual and we provide support, education, counselling and respite for carers and families and friends. All our programs are delivered with the input and participation of people who themselves live with mental illness.
Find the right support service
We can help you find the right support services whether you are an individual with mental illness or a carer or family member. We run a broad range of services which include activity centres and programs, support groups, one-to-one support, respite, therapeutic groups, community education, peer worker training and personal mentoring.
Information
We keep abreast of the latest research and treatments for mental illness and can help you with more than 30 fact sheets on mental illness. Titles include Understanding Schizophrenia, Understanding Bipolar Disorder, Understanding Depression, Be Loyal to Wellness, Cannabis and Psychosis, That’s What it’s like to be a Carer and Beautiful Minds Can Be Recovered.
Community education
We are committed to raising awareness that recovery from mental illness is possible. We aim to reduce discrimination and stigma around mental illness and we work with government, community groups and health services to promote understanding of mental illness and the rights of people with mental illness.
Our fellowship
We are part of a national organisation of mental health service providers – the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA). MIFA is a not-for-profit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organisation of people with serious mental illnesses, their families and friends.
