About Us

About the Fellowship
The Mental Illness Fellowship of Queensland is a specialist mental health organisation providing services across south and central Queensland. We have offices in Brisbane, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Northern Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.

We provide services and support for people living with schizophrenia and other serious mental illness (including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder), their carers and families.

If you are living with a mental illness and need support we can help you with information and lifestyle and social support.

We understand that a diagnosis of mental illness not only affects the individual but also their loved ones. If you are the carer or family member of a person with mental illness we can help you find the support and information you need.

MIFQ can also provide speakers to talk to schools, businesses, clubs and community groups.

At the Fellowship, we are a member of the national alliance of mental health service providers – the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA). MIFA is a not-for-profit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organisation of people with serious mental illnesses, their families and friends.

The History of the Fellowship
The Schizophrenia Fellowship of Queensland Inc was established in 1985 by people living with schizophrenia and their family members. Founding members sought to redress government and community neglect of individuals living with schizophrenia, and to share support, resources, and understanding.

In January 2009, the Fellowship changed its name to the Mental Illness Fellowship of Queensland to reflect the diverse services provided to people with a range of mental illnesses.
