MIFA Submission to the Senate Inquiry into the NDIS Amendment Bill 2026

MIFA has lodged a submission to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026.

The submission raises concerns about the process and potential impact of the proposed reforms on people living with psychosocial disability, their families, carers, and community mental health providers.

At the centre of the submission is a key paradox: while genuine community consultation has been identified as essential to further NDIS reform, some of the Bill’s most significant measures are progressing without specific consultation and with only a two-week turnaround for submissions.

MIFA’s submission highlights concerns including reductions to social and community participation supports, tightening eligibility before foundational supports are operational, a permanence test that may not reflect the episodic nature of mental ill-health, increased pressure on families, carers, and community mental health providers, and major reforms progressing without genuine consultation.

MIFA is calling for proper sequencing of reform, meaningful consultation with the disability community, and safeguards to ensure people with high need mental health challenges are not left without support.
