Family Support Service

At MIFWA we understand that when a person is diagnosed with mental illness they are not the only ones affected by the diagnosis; carers, families and friends are all involved and need help and support.

Our education program Well Ways is designed for carers and families. Visit the Well Ways page to find out more.

We also offer support through our carer and family support network.

Whole of family approach

Maintaining the health of the family requires that all family members receive support, counselling and a break if necessary so that children, parents, grandparents are not overwhelmed by the disruption and grief that may accompany the onset of mental illness.

Our team of family support workers can advise and work with you. For more information call us Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on (08) 9228 0200.

We also work with Children of Mentally Ill Consumers Western Australia (COMIC WA) to make sure all aspects of family are covered.

Support for Parents living with mental illness

MIFWA's Parent Peer Support Program will be commencing in February 2012.  This program will work in partnership with Children of Mentally Ill Consumers Western Australia (COMIC WA) and will be working alongside the Family Support Program.

Support for parents living with mental illness will be offered by trained Parent Peer Support Workers.  These workers have a direct lived experience of what it is like to be a parent with a mental illness and are at a point in their recovery where they can offer hope and support to families in similar circumstances.
