MIEQ Schools Education

Mental Illness Fellowship of NQ Inc. has now strengthened its part in the MIEA (Mental Illness Education Australia) coalition to deliver this school based educational program throughout Queensland.
Mental Illness Education for high schools is effective in countering the myths and misunderstandings about mental illness in the wider community.
We work in partnership with other organisations around Australia and New Zealand to educate high school students about the experience of mental illness, risk behaviour and early warning signs.
We also provide information about where to go for help.
How does it work?
A team of two trained people – one a relative, friend or person who has lived with mental illness – works with a class of students for one hour, helping to explain mental illness and speaking about their own experiences and insights gained through living with mental illness.
Students take home class notes on the issues discussed and teachers are asked to complete an evaluation form.
Who is it for?
The MIE program targets students in grades 10, 11 and 12 although other grades can request the program. It is also useful for teachers and parent and citizens (P&C) groups.
