PHaMs opens in Toowoomba and Northern Sunshine Coast

The Personal Helpers and Mentors (PHaMs) program has expanded recently to include Toowoomba and the Northern Sunshine Coast.
Since the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs announced the recipients of the third round of PHaMs funding, a lot of work has been undertaken by Fellowship staff to prepare for implementation.

Kaye Frangos has been appointed team leader for the Northern Sunshine Coast site and services manager Brian Beck is acting team leader in Toowoomba.
The PHaMs program opened in Cooroy in August, and staff have started delivering services to the Northern Sunshine Coast region, which covers Maroochydore, Nambour, Noosa, Tewantin, Gympie, Gayndah, Murgon and Cherbourg.
Services from the Toowoomba site include the regional areas Gatton, Helidon, Crows Nest, Yarraman, and Dalby.

The PHaMs program provides a personal helper or mentor to work with participants to give one-on-one support in setting and achieving goals.

Hare and tortoise fun day

The annual Hare and Tortoise fun Day was held 7 October to celebrate Stress Less Day and Mental Health Week. Gold Coast mayor Ron Clarke launched the fun day. Around 150 participants from local Gold Coast and Brisbane services competed for great prizes before sharing in a fabulous barbeque lunch.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to a great day.

RNA Cloakroom

In August the Fellowship ran the RNA cloak room at the Ekka. Over the 10 days of the show the cloak room stored thousands of bags, strollers, stuffed toys and jackets. We also sold striped bags for storage.

More than 100 volunteers helped out including Fellowship members, staff, carers and some fabulous workers from Suncorp and Brisbane City Council.

In addition to raising much needed funds for the Fellowship, the cloak room provides an opportunity for members to engage with the public in a real working role. The cloak room was a great way for volunteers to experience the Ekka, meet new friends, and grow in confidence.
