MIFSA Therapeutic Groups conducted at Glenside Hospital
MIFSA’s Therapeutic Groups team are currently conducting a series of six “Emotional Wellbeing” sessions within Glenside Hospital’s Rural and Remote ward.
We began these sessions by exploring aspects of life that support the development of emotional wellbeing and identifying aspects that hinder it. These aspects were then linked to processes of recovery.
In subsequent sessions we have explored how the practice of mindfulness can support the recovery process, ways of managing and overcoming the challenges of anxiety and ways of working productively with strong, unwanted emotions.
The most recent session focused on working with problematic thinking processes, bringing awareness to some of the difficulties inherent in the thinking mind and exploring strategies for overcoming them. The sessions have been enthusiastically supported by the staff team and extremely well attended.
The feedback from participants (both staff and patients) has been very positive. We are hopeful that we will be able to provide more of these types of sessions within the public mental health facilities in the future.
