Tobacco Free Program
Support for Smokers with mental illness
The Tobacco Free Program is for people with mental illness who are in the local community, hostels and rehabilitation units. The program is tailored for people with mental illness who want to give up smoking, reduce tobacco use or who are just thinking about it.
This evidence based program has been running in South Australia since 2003 with very successful outcomes. The program is facilitated by Peer Workers, who are ex-smokers who understand the difficulties of giving up smoking while experiencing mental illness.
The program runs over 10 weeks and consists of a weekly 2 hour session. The program is funded by the Mental Health Commission and referrals are taken from the Perth Metropolitan area extending to regional areas.
