Carer & Family Support (Well Ways)

At MIFSA we understand that when a person experiences mental illness they are not the only ones affected by the diagnosis - families and friends often need information and support too.

The Well Ways education programs now give options to the person experiencing mental illness and their families and friends. The programs use research evidence and the first-hand knowledge of facilitators who share their experience and wisdom as carers.

We offer three Well Ways options for carers: Building a Future, Duo and Snapshots.

Well Ways Building a Future can help you care effectively for yourself, your family members and the person in your family living with mental illness. The program covers the many issues facing families as they manage the impact of mental illness on their lives.

All Well Ways education programs include up to date information about diagnosis and treatment, mental health services available to you and your family, legal and practical advice and strategies for managing the symptoms of mental illness.

Well Ways Building a Future starts with eight initial consecutive weekly sessions then four follow-up sessions over a year.

Well Ways Duo is for carers and families of a person with a dual diagnosis – coexisting drug or alcohol problems and mental illness. Well Ways Duo will teach you skills in harm reduction, addressing and managing agitation and aggression, and recognising the symptoms of mental illness and their treatment and recovery.

Well Ways Duo starts with six weekly sessions then four follow-up sessions.

Well Ways Snapshots is for carers and families in selected areas of rural South Australia and is a short version of WW Building a Future based on the model of recovery and facilitated by both a carer and a consumer.
