About Well Ways Building a Future

The Well Ways Building a Future Program is a peer-to-peer psychosocial education program for family and friends of people with mental illness. It is designed to increase the capacity of families and friends to care effectively for themselves, other family members, and their loved one living with mental illness. The program consists of 12 sessions and provides a broad and sensitive perspective of the many issues facing families and friends.   

 
How Well Ways Building a Future can help you
The delivery of the program to families and friends provides essential access to educational materials. These materials not only provide support to the individual throughout the program but also offer a platform for the development of skills and abilities for the family structure to continue to grow and develop their resilience, self-mastery and future orientation.

The program contains a variety of content, including:

  • Up to date information about anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, schizoaffective disorder and dual diagnosis (drug and alcohol abuse and mental illness)
  • Information about mental health services available to you and your family
  • Practical insight into behaviour associated with mental illness and strategies to respond effectively
  • Practical frameworks to improve communication and problem solving skills
  • The dilemmas and complexities of the caring role.
Referrals to Well Ways Building a Future
Indiduals who play a caring role to a person living with mental illness is eligible for this program. Referrals can be made by individuals or by other organisations. 
 
How Well Ways Building a Future is funded
This program is currently funded by Queensland Health through the Toowoomba – West Moreton Health Service District, Department of Communities and by the Fellowship. The Fellowship continues to actively seek funding opportunities for this essential family and friend educational program.
